Negative electricity prices: cost or opportunity?
On sunny afternoons, the day-ahead price drops below zero more and more often. With solar panels you then pay to export; with storage you earn from it.

Negative prices sound strange, but they are a signal: at that moment there is more electricity than needed. Whoever takes power then helps the grid and is rewarded for it.
What it means if you have solar panels
If you export during hours with a negative price, it can cost money instead of earning it. Using or storing the power yourself then becomes attractive.

Three ways to respond
- Charge a battery during the negative hours.
- Shift consumption, such as pre-cooling or charging vehicles.
- Temporarily limit export when that pays off more.
